The tour to Cape Cross departs from either Coastal Town early in the morning, and heads north along the coast .Our first stop will be at the Salt Works just north of Swakopmund to view flamingos (seasonal) and a variety of other waders. Guano platforms, where Cape Cormorants and White-breasted Cormorants overnight, are also to be seen here. We then head to the holiday town of Wlotzkasbaken. This is a town that has no electricity or normal amenities, only a water supply that is delivered to the houses by tanker. Just north of Wlotzkasbaken, we stop at the first lichen fields on our tour. The lichens found here are endemic to the Namib. 70 km north of Swakopmund we find the town of Henties Bay, where we have our next stop. From here we travel to Cape Cross. At Cape Cross you can view 80 000—100 000 seals at leisure. This is also the place where the first European, Diego Cǎo, set foot in 1486. Afterwards we head back to Swakopmund. En route we will stop to view more lichens, plant life and small animals.
This tour can be combined with the Welwitschia Drive to make it a full-day tour. A lunch pack will then be included.
